Walks I spent over two weeks just wandering around the old city and beyond but still managed to find new alleyways each day, along with someone else to have a cup of flower tea with. I didn't have a guide, but on the nine day tour arround Syria we had a marvellous tour guide who happens to live in damascus, ghattas Eid, his details are below. Along with a picture of him with one of the friends on the tour. You can also see him demonstrating how to wear a traditional Syrian head dress at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL96Ng4kQNw
Lady Jane Elizabeth Digby el Mezrab This was a fascinating english excentrict who ended up living in Damascus for many years (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Digby). Many of the guidebooks talk about her and there was also a film made, the house is supossed to be just north of the old city but I spend a whole morning walking around trying to find it, I did manage eventually to find a picture of the house at http://www.lind.org.zw/people/janedigby/JaneDigby.htm shown below.I also met a very helpful elderly gentleman who thought he knew roughtly were it was but I never managed to meet up with him again for him to take me to it
