Leisure

There are no trendy sports clubs here! And the facilities seem to be getting worse. An old bowling green, according to the map, no longer exists. The Benwell Cricket Club and Green are now derelict because of numerous arson attacks.

The largest piece of ground, Nuns Moor Park Playing Field has recently been under threat of becoming an overspill Car Park for Newcastle Football Ground which luckily has been temporarilly reprieved. This small piece of land is used by numerous people for all manner of activities including an annual fair. The other part of Nun's Moor Park contains Tennis courts, a (redundant?) Band stand and some modest examples of planned hedges.

Comparing the facilities offered in Arthur's Hill to those of a typical Park, such as Brighton's Preston Park, they are whoefully lacking. There or no facilities for such things as Basket Ball, Skate Boarding, BMX Bike Ryding or Bowling. Not one age group let alone all of them are catered for here. There is no point in getting local involvement in projects if they havn't been to other areas to learn what is possible etc.

The Site of Todd's Nook Primary School is now a grassed over area. A rather pathetic attempt at providing some facilities are present. Including two basket ball nets both at the same end of the court? Another small plot of Green can be found a the top of Stanton St where the first hundred or so houses have been demolished.

Health

Stanhope St. has a combined Health Centre and Dentist. There is also a Chiropractor along Brighton Grove. One of the main hospitals for newcastle (the General Hospital- NGH) is now mainly a car park.
